We Improve the Quality of Life
by
Producing Cleaner Energy
Introduction
Over the past two decades energy intensive users worldwide have been under increased pressure to become both cleaner and more efficient. Many have been forced to reinvent themselves in order to achieve these goals.
Faced with this reality, Vuselela was conceived in 2009 to originate and develop clean energy projects based on the capture and utilisation of waste heat sources from the metallurgical industry.
The personnel and partners of Vuselela Energy all have deep roots in the Pyro-metallurgical sector and have a fundamental understanding of the dynamics and processes involved.
Vuselela Energy works to:
- Lower the lifetime costs of energy.
- Ensure high level of availability.
- Optimize electricity production
- Have zero negative impact on the host operations.
Technology
Thermal Harvesting™
Vuselela Energy’s technology base entails our patented Thermal Harvesting™ concepts, recovering heat from thermal sources in industrial applications such as:
- Cooling of Industrial Waste Flue Gasses;
- Cooling of Alloys and Slags during Casting;
- Replacing Water with Alternative Cooling Fluid(s);
The uniqueness of the concept is that Vuselela utilizes a thermal medium for the harvesting of energy from several points on a single site, even though the heat sources may differ significantly in quality (temperature and flow)
The process and equipment utilized for harvesting are typically designed to replace e.g. radiant trombone coolers, forced draft coolers or spray coolers that are commonly used for cooling hot industrial offgas streams before cleaning by bag filters or ESPs.
In these applications, a thermal collector fluid is circulated through bespoke heat exchangers to absorb the thermal waste energy while the hot process gas is cooled down at the same time.
The hot thermal fluid is then utilized in an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) to convert the captured thermal sources to electrical power at much lower temperatures than that of a comparable steam turbine solution.
Vuselela Energy has developed strong relationships with a number of Technology Suppliers for application in the Metallurgical, Mining, Cement and other Energy Intensive sectors worldwide.
Vuselela also has exclusive use of all the intellectual property rights for all know how, designs, processes, business templates and other inventions developed by Vuselela and our technical partners, EPS relating to the Thermal Harvesting™ Technologies.
Our flagship project, established in 2015 was the (worldwide) first of its kind, a 5MW ORC based Thermal Harvesting™ plant (Eternity Power) installed on a PGM smelter in South Africa.

Business Models
Vuselela works with project hosts to identify, develop and implement waste heat recovery projects that maximize efficiency and optimize power generation.
Our development process follows classic engineering flow principles, though in many cases it is possible to accelerate from Desktop to Bankable Feasibility due to our deep understanding of the industry and applications.
Each project is developed within a separate company, or special purpose vehicle (SPV), specifically set up for the purpose. Vuselela typically looks to invest in co-generation plants of between 2MW and 20MW and costing from US$5 million upwards.
Vuselela’s business models are highly flexible and we offer our partners a range of options to suit their individual requirements.
These models include:
- Co-Investment Model (CIM);
- Build, Own, Operate & Transfer Model (BOOT); and
- Energy Conversion Agreement Model (ECA)
In all these implementation models Vuselela leverages it’s in-house experience to act as project developer and O&M contractor.
